Enough is Enough: Stop Harassment at Your Meetings

Join your association colleagues at the Alexandria Brown Bag.

Most reasonable people would agree that in every professional setting, including meetings, conferences, and trade shows, all participants have the right to be free from unwelcome or unwanted attention and behavior. The reality is that reports of sexual and gender-based harassment at meetings have included everything from catcalling, sexual comments, and other forms of verbal harassment to stalking, groping, and physical assault.

We'll talk about why meeting harassment happens, what it means for your meetings and members, and how best to stop and prevent it.

Work Redefined: A Conversation That Matters

(Note: This will be updated with the date and time when we have that information confirmed.)

The whole idea of a typical "work day" has been turned upside down as new technologies, management styles, "office hours," and information combine to reconfigure the basic core of how people get things done at their organizations. Using an informal, interactive format, we'll discuss the difficulties and opportunities of managing the virtual and in-person 21st-century workforce amid increasingly blurred lines between work and life. Accountability, trust, results, all are more important than ever and all are changing elements in next-gen organizations. Add your voice and insights to our dialogue.

Speaker(s):
Carey Goryl, MSW, CAE, CEO, International Association of Forensic Nurses
Sherry Marts, PhD, CEO, S*Marts Consulting, LLC
Laura Sharon, MA, Principal, Imperative Dimensions, Inc.

Attending and presenting at meetings, conventions, and conferences is required for success in academic and research careers. Sexual and gender-based harassment at meetings erodes women’s confidence, undermines their professional success, and holds women back in their professions. In this highly interactive session we'll talk about the kinds of harassment women experience at meetings,  how individuals can respond effectively to being the target of harassment, or to being a bystander or witness of harassment; and how associations and other meeting and conference producers can prevent and address harassment at their events.
